This week, Thurman is tackling a classic cocktail that boasts a storied past but requires a careful touch: The Godfather
Welcome to another episode of The Best Worst Drinks. Today, we’re tackling a classic cocktail with a storied past: The Godfather.
Don't be fooled by the simplicity of the recipe, this cocktail calls for a little finesse, and a light touch to get right. A bold mix of Scotch whisky and amaretto, The Godfather first gained popularity in the 1970s. It’s said to be named after the iconic mafia film The Godfather because it was Marlon Brando’s favourite drink. Just like Brando’s performance, this cocktail is known for being smooth and powerful.
But here’s the thing: bartenders can sometimes get a little too creative with this drink, stretching the 2:1 Whiskey to Amaretto ratio as far as 1:1 and turning it into a sweet, syrupy version that loses much of its charm.
Drawing on his years spent behind the bar, Thurman is here to show us how to respect the original recipe and add some nuance by using all Australian spirits.
