Welcome to another episode of The Best Worst Drinks. Today, we’re making the number one, most requested cocktail by our audience: the Long Island Iced Tea.

The history of the Long Island Iced Tea is a little complicated, with two competing origin stories—one from Robert 'Rosebud' Butt of Long Island, Tennessee, and the other from Old Man Bishop of Long Island, New York. Regardless of who deserves the credit, we can all agree on one thing: it’s usually awful. Fun fact: despite its name, there’s no tea in it! The drink gets its name from its tea-like color, mostly thanks to the cola.

Like many of the Best Worst drinks, the Long Island Iced Tea often suffers from poor-quality ingredients and is notorious for being the 'kitchen sink' of cocktails, with so many different spirits thrown together. Our in-house drinks aficionado, Thurman, is here to show us how to elevate this cult classic by using contemporary ingredients that actually complement each other, making it surprisingly delicious.

Ingredients

15ml Absolute Vodka
15ml Tanqueray 10 Gin
15ml Tromba Tequilla
15ml Havana Club Rum
15ml Marionette and Four Pillars Old Fashioned Gin Liqueur
15ml Fresh home made sour mix
Splash of Cola
Fresh Ice
Lemon Wedge

Method

Add Vodka, Gin and Tequila, Rum, Gin Liqueur and sour into a mixing shaker
Shake vigorously for 15 seconds
Pour over fresh ice in Collins Glass
Garnish with a slice of lemon
