Vieux Carre

If diversity and inclusion had a signature drink it would be the Vieux Carre, which harks back to 1930s New Orleans.

At a glance, the Vieux Carre might read like a mere twist on its cousin, the Manhattan. But the additions of cognac and Bénédictine liqueur have created a richer and more complex drink, which is now a right of passage for every bartender to perfect. Invented in 1930s New Orleans, it’s named after the city’s French Quarter, where all people from all over could mingle. With plenty of international ingredients mingling in this glass, the name couldn’t be more apt.
