Green chartreuse is an absolute must-have for mixing, even if it’s just to make a Last Words (one of our favourite and underrated cocktails).
Here’s a liqueur shrouded in enough mystery to give the Da Vinci Code a run for its money. In 1605, François Hannibal d'Estrées gifted the Carthusian monks an alchemical manuscript with a recipe for an "elixir of long life, " including around 130 ingredients. The monks made it their own, tweaking the recipe for the next 150 years. Today, only 2 monks know the recipe and continue to distil it for its parent company.
